about

The track lays ’60s James Bond Theme guitars over menacing music that feels like a strong storm heard from a pitch-black basement. Behind the dark, heavy 7/4 groove of "Kept Them in the Dark" lies something even more sinister. This song is for the countless victims of rich-get-richer/poor-get-poorer economic policies which are banged into law by grinning demons with gavels. The lawmakers know there are victims. But still, they leave them in the dark.

lyrics

KEPT THEM IN THE DARK
They knew nothin' about it. They knew nothin' about it.
Couldn't do somethin' about it. They knew nothin' about it.
White paint…the walls…blood stains…the hall
Shades drawn…all day…can hear the bay
Can't see outside…how old am I?
But they say then knew nothin' about it. They knew nothin' about it.
If only they'd done somethin' about it. But they say then knew nothin' about it.
Hard rain all night…fluorescent light
Radio upstairs…we are nowhere
It's cold down here. How many years? It's cold down here. How many years?
Their story is fiction. They knew about the victims. Those eyes in the dark: They kept them in the dark.
They kept us all in the dark.
Their story is fiction. They knew about the victims. By act of omission, they kept them in the dark.
They kept us all in the dark.
Their story is fiction. They knew about the victims. Those eyes in the dark: They kept them in the dark.
They kept us all in the dark.
Their story is fiction. They knew about the victims. By act of omission, they kept them in the dark.
They kept us all in the dark.
How many more years? How many more years?
Don't say you knew nothin' about it.

about

The Claudettes Chicago, Illinois

The Claudettes stare down dark personal and national moods, seizing high times on the road and on their best album yet. Piano is still the core of the Claudettes' music, but Berit Ulseth's sublime vocals steal the spotlight on the band's fifth release. Produced by Grammy winner Ted Hutt, this richly atmospheric album conjures images of Julie London and Allen Toussaint in a '60s hot-rod band. ... more
