about

Many Americans favor "regulars": people who look & believe like them. This song, a mini prog-pop epic, is an anthem for the "Irregulars," a caustic reaction to the term "Illegals" and to the meme with an aging couple looking out over their farmland with the caption "Wouldn't it be great if things were like they used to be?" IT WOULDN'T BE GREAT FOR EVERYONE! The song is an arabesque haunted by the grim realities of the Old Country.

lyrics

Whaddayou mean I can't have everything I want?
Who let you in here anyway?
I'm used to a certain standard of service
What have they done to this place?
I used to be a regular here
Everybody pretty much the same
Now they let irregulars waltz right in
Y'ask me, it's a cryin' shame
Wait, hold on, back up a bit
What's all this about "kindness"?
I don't have time for that kinda thing
Whaddya take me for, spineless?
All my people are regulars here
We have our regular tables.
Now they let irregulars sashay through the door
I don't believe in labels
And I don't hate anyone
I don't have hatred in my heart
But with all the irregularity here
This old place is falling apart
This good old-fashioned place is falling apart
Regulars are in my prayers
I fear they'll disappear
Please fill out this questionnaire
Do you want Irregulars here?
They're gallivanting everywhere
Do you want Irregulars here?

about

The Claudettes Chicago, Illinois

The Claudettes stare down dark personal and national moods, seizing high times on the road and on their best album yet. Piano is still the core of the Claudettes' music, but Berit Ulseth's sublime vocals steal the spotlight on the band's fifth release. Produced by Grammy winner Ted Hutt, this richly atmospheric album conjures images of Julie London and Allen Toussaint in a '60s hot-rod band. ... more
